Mount Slamet (3,432 meter) volcano is located on the island of Java, Indonesia. This mountain is located on the border Brebes regency, Banyumas, Purbalingga, and Pemalang Regency, Central Java Province, and is the highest in Central Java and the second highest in the island of Java. There are four craters on the peak of all active.

At the foot of this mountain there is a tourist area called Baturraden or Batur Raden. Regions common to achieve this tour of the city of Purwokerto, Banyumas regency capital.

Gunung Slamet is one of the mountain, which is the purpose of the expedition climber, both from the local area and other regions. This mountain has Dipterokarp Hill forest area, forest Dipterokarp Top, Montane forest, and forest Ericaceous mountains or forests.

In the book titled "Three Old Sundanese Poems", a KITLV Leiden in 2006, J. Noorduyn said that the name "Slamet" is relatively new, namely after the entry of Islam to Java. With reference to the ancient script Sunda Bujangga Manik, Noorduyn write that long name of this mountain is Mount Agung.

Last activity is in May to June 2009 and are still removing the red-hot lava.
